Why does God call it the Great Mystery?
There are a number of mysteries in the Bible. However, God calls this particular mystery the Great Mystery because it is greater than all others. He marks it out with the usage of the word “Great”. The Greek word used here is “megas” which refers to something on a grand scale, of the highest ranking in order and of something which is glorious splendour. The word “Great” in the context of the Mystery refers to the both the vastness of the Mystery as well as its spiritual splendour. The teachings of the Great Mystery bring man into this vastness and spiritual splendour.

Where in the Bible can I find the Mystery?
The Epistles of Paul unfold the Great Mystery. To begin with, the main scripture references include Colossians 1:25-27, Ephesians 3:1-9, Romans 16:25-26, 1 Corinthians 2:7-8, and Ephesians 5:32 but there are many more. All of Paul’s writings in the Bible lead to the unfolding of this Great Mystery.

Is the Mystery for everyone?
Gods wants all mankind to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth of the Mystery. He also wants to make known what are the riches of the glory of the Mystery among all nations. However, there are prerequisites before a person can begin to understand the Mystery. In the Bible, the Mystery is called the strong meat of the Christian faith. Therefore, “babes” in Christ must grow spiritually first before they can digest the strong meat of the Great Mystery.

Why did God keep the Mystery hidden before He revealed it to Paul, the Apostle?
There are four main reasons for this. Firstly, in Old Testament times God was working out His purpose with Israel and at that time the Church of God did not exist. Secondly, the Bible says that if the Devil and his ruling spirits had known about the Mystery, they would never have crucified Jesus Christ. Thirdly, Jesus Christ had to die, be raised again and ascend to the Father before the realities of the Great Mystery could be made available. Fourthly, man could not receive and understand the knowledge of the Mystery until he was born of the Spirit. This first happened at Pentecost.

Do all Christian groups and denominations teach the Mystery?
No. Many Christian organisations are not aware of the Great Mystery. However, it is God’s will for the Great Mystery to be taught in all churches so that all members of the Body of Christ can mature and become stronger and wiser regarding the truth
